The Locals CD project is a community effort to create a CD featuring Local artists, and is sold throughout the Tahoe area as a fundraiser for the KidZone Museum of Truckee.

Two common questions: "Who qualifies as local?" and "What sort of stuff are you looking for?"

These questions are touched-upon a bit in the submission form but for the most part are intentionally being left unanswered for the moment. The Sierra Sun did a series recently exploring the question of what defines a Local, and found that different people define the term different ways. For the purposes of this excercise, that decision is left to the artist: if you feel you're a Local, tell us why and submit your stuff.

Similarly with style and content: part of the purpose of this project is to see if we can discover what defines a Local style, and as such it makes little sense to put restrictions on folks right from the start. We don't want folks to force themselves into a particular style because they think it's what someone else wants. If it's good, and it's Local, we want to hear from you.

Most importantly, we want this to be a project which benefits everyone: the KidZone volunteers the effort in putting the project together and gets a fundraiser, the artists contribute their work and get to reach a broader audience, and the community at large gets to find-out what's been here all along.
